Happy 2007! (and good riddance)

Hope your 2007 was a good year. It definitely was a year of ups and downs for us.

Highest high: I was home all year.

Lowest low: I lost a good friend in a car accident and he left behind his wife and three children.

As 2007 ends and 2008 begins, I will attempt to revive my blogging skills and post stuff to help friends and family keep tabs on the happenings in my little world. I have a page on myspace that you are more than welcome to visit.

Do you have any plans for the New Year? How about resolutions?

I'll post some of mine next time. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Saturday, maybe a year from now.

Where have I been?!

Holy smokes! I can't believe I haven't touched this blog since January! That seems like a life time ago. I just re-read some of my "latest" posts to get a feel for where I was and it really was a whole 'nother world.

This post (and the next few) will be short. I'm just curious if any of my friends are still out there. I'll try to go through some of the old comments and hit your sites, but if you zap me first, that will speed things up.

I've been back in California all year (yeah!!!) and I have even moved up a level in my career field. Unfortunately it was a promotion to a higher level billet and did not come with another stripe, but that will come in time (I hope). Either way, I'm down to my last five years on active duty before I can retire.

GULP!

I need to find a career planner and figure out what I'm going to do next. Oh wait...

Homecoming king and queen

We got home on Friday and it's been a pretty good weekend. Jen came up and met me right as evening colors was sounded. Everyone stopped and rendered honors to the flag as it was lowered from its half-mast position and then we all went back to our happy reunions. She'd made arrangements to have our babysitter drop the kids off at home with a friend and when we got home, she went in the door first. The kids came to say "hi" to her and stopped short when they saw me in the doorway. Trey was great. He shouted, "Daddy!" and grabbed my neck. Leah stopped short and looked at Jen. I heard my wife ask, "Who is that?" and she pointed at me and said very matter-of-factly that it was, "Da-ee" and then gave me a big hug. It was great.

The reception this morning at church was equally enthusiastic. All in all, it's been a great weekend. I learned that my parents and sister will be coming out to see us in a couple of weeks and they'll be able to stay for about a week. That's good. The new car is good. It has a very good turning radius and it's got TONS of room.

The only thing that would've made my weekend tip-top would've been if the Eagles had been able to beat the Saints yesterday. As I type, the Chargers are taking care of the Patriots, but the game is far from over. The Bolts just downed a punt on the 2 yard line, so if the Patriots are going to take the lead, they're going to have to move a long way down the field to score. Anyway, I need to concentrate on this game. ;-)

Hope your new year is off to a good start. I'm doing pretty well. I've got some resolutions to work on. How about you? Did you make any resolutions? Have you resolved to not make any resolutions? I need to go around and read some blogs, but that'll have to wait until this game is over. Have a great 2007 and I look forward to getting back to "normal."
